A vision that’s growing worldwide

How it all started: The origin of medikit

The medikit story actually begins with hotelkit, the platform founded in 2012 by our CEO and Co-Founder Marius Donhauser to revolutionize team communication and collaboration in hotels. What started as a personal challenge in his hotel evolved into a leading solution for internal communication in the hospitality industry. 

The idea for medikit came years later on a ski tour, to be exact. Marius was out in the mountains with his longtime friend Johannes and Johannes’ brother Maximilian Gebauer. Maximilian had just taken over his father’s dental practice and was sharing the daily struggles of running a practice and the lack of suitable tools for internal collaboration. Marius explained how he successfully used hotelkit to tackle these exact challenges in the hotel industry.

They quickly recognized the parallels: In both industries, teams work in shifts without personalized email addresses, yet still need to collaborate efficiently to ensure the highest quality standards. It became clear to the three of them that this solution had huge potential for the healthcare industry, and the idea for medikit was born.

The first pilot project launched directly in Maximilian’s dental clinic, Dr. Gebauer Zahnärzte, where medikit was successfully tested under real-world conditions. Johannes later joined hotelkit GmbH as medikit’s Co-Founder and continued developing the system at Zahnklinik Mühldorf am Inn, where he was the clinic’s commercial director. In that role, he also incorporated the requirements of larger organizations into the development process.

What started as an idea quickly became a trusted solution. medikit launched as an independent brand in 2014. Today, over 3,800 customers rely on medikit, not just in hospitality and dentistry, but in 20+ other sectors, including veterinary medicine, nursing, clinics, hospitals, and pharmacies.

Our mission has been clear from day one: to offer a central platform that simplifies daily tasks for teams. But over the years, we’ve evolved, both in who we are and what we stand for. Now, it’s time for our brand to reflect who we have become and where we are headed in the future. We’re excited to share this next chapter with you. Why we decided to rebrand

In the beginning, we were a young, dynamic startup scaling fast. Today, we’ve grown into a successful international scale-up, partnering with large organizations across the globe. We’ve built a strong foundation, created a competitive product, and remained focused on our mission. Over time, we made small adjustments to our branding: simplifying designs and refining our color palette. But these tweaks resulted in inconsistencies. Our logo no longer matched who we had become as a team and a company. We had outgrown our original brand.

Our path to the new brand

Our rebranding journey began in early 2022 when the idea first came up. But we weren’t quite ready yet and put the project on hold. In spring 2023, we picked it back up and worked closely with both internal and external stakeholders to define our values, unique strengths, and long-term vision. 

What truly sets us apart is our industry-specific solution, designed to meet the everyday needs of healthcare and social care teams. Built by industry insiders, it directly addresses real-life challenges. To reflect this in our brand, we needed a new visual identity, one that conveys both professionalism and clarity.

From concept to execution – our visual design

In fall 2023, we began developing our new brand identity, which led to 356 logo drafts and countless hours of design work. By winter 2023/24, we had found the logo that will represent our brand, company, and product for years to come. In the following months, we refined our corporate identity with a strong focus on typography, icons, and visual elements.

It had to symbolize our strengths: streamlining communication, improving collaboration, and boosting efficiency in day-to-day tasks. With its clean and clear design, the new logo is a perfect visual expression of our mission: to improve team communication and to increase productivity.

We’ve introduced a powerful new design element: the speech bubble. It stands for quick, clear, and easy communication—something that’s at the heart of both our platform and our philosophy. It symbolizes our mission to bring people together, strengthen team spirit, and support smooth day-to-day collaboration. It’s a simple visual cue for what medikit enables every day: seamless communication, efficient workflows, and stronger teams. 

In our brand communication and imagery, the focus is always on people. We put the teams in practices, clinics, and care facilities at the center, making our messaging more personal and speaking directly to those we support. It’s about giving visibility and empowerment to the teams behind the scenes.
