“We now have instant access to current treatment pathways. That’s been a huge help, especially when onboarding new team members.”
Lena Sames
Head of Central Admissions & Deputy Director of Nursing
Kaiserin-Auguste-Victoria-Krankenhaus
Since 1911, Kaiserin-Auguste-Victoria-Krankenhaus has been a fixture in the region’s healthcare landscape. With around 180 employees, it serves patients in surgical and internal medicine specialties. To stay future-ready and meet the demands of digital transformation, the hospital relies on medikit.
For this article, we spoke with several department heads and healthcare professionals across the hospital to hear how medikit supports their daily work. Together, they offer insight into how the platform simplifies processes in each department.
OR: Precise planning and preparation
In the operating room, precise preparation is essential for smooth procedures. medikit enables transparent, step-by-step documentation all the way up to the surgery itself. Physician Assistant Uwe Linnebacher explains: “medikit makes it much easier to access our treatment pathways. Whether I need to plan a surgery or review forms like X-ray requests or physio referrals, I can find information instantly.”
medikit also strengthens interdisciplinary collaboration, whether it’s coordinating with labs, radiology, or external specialists. “medikit helps me share the right information with the right people. Not every detail needs to be shared with everyone and in a hospital, data privacy is key,” Linnebacher adds. Digital checklists bring structure and traceability to the OR prep process, reducing errors and helping teams work more efficiently.
Central admissions & nursing: Clear treatment pathways
Lena Sames, Head of Central Admissions and Deputy Nursing Director, describes the advantages of using medikit in her fast-paced work environment. Above all, communication has significantly improved. “With medikit, I can contact colleagues anytime, from anywhere,” she says. Group functions enable seamless communication across teams, giving her a clear overview of all ongoing processes.
She also highlights the improvement through digital treatment pathways:
“Now we have instant access to up-to-date treatment protocols, which really helps when onboarding new staff, since each physician may use slightly different routines.” Before medikit, treatment pathways were also accessible digitally, but they were often outdated and unclear. Now all information is centralized, always up to date, and easy to find, making daily operations in Central Admissions significantly more efficient.
Support for interdisciplinary collaboration
Mit acht verschiedenen orCarina Schneider, Head of the Interdisciplinary Ward, emphasizes how medikit has improved daily operations in her unit. Especially with regards to the documentation of treatment pathways, which are now much more accessible and clearer. With eight orthopedic surgeons—each with their standards—medikit provides quick access to standardized processes. Every team member, whether new or experienced, can access up-to-date information at any time, from admission to discharge of the patient. The digital structure provided by medikit offers major advantages, especially when onboarding new staff. Treatment pathways are laid out clearly, enabling new team members to quickly understand what needs to be done.
What works for individual departments also benefits hospital management: all staff can now be reached with just one click.
Facility Management: Transparent maintenance requests
medikit has brought clarity and efficiency to the technical services team.
Mustafa Diva, Facility Technician and Fire Safety Officer, shares: “Everything is transparent. We can comment on repairs, start work, and even generate stats.”
Requests come in directly via medikit, making faster handling possible. “I can accept the task, carry it out, order parts if needed, and update the status,” he adds.
With this centralized overview, everyone can track a repair’s progress, improving communication and coordination. For maintenance tasks, like transformer station cleaning, medikit ensures that all relevant staff are notified in time. “Everyone has real-time visibility into ongoing activities,” says Diva. medikit’s clarity and usability have noticeably boosted efficiency in Facility Management.
Endoscopy & hygiene teams: Structured Checklists
Precise documentation is critical in hygiene management, especially for endoscope processing. “We use multiple digital checklists daily to log every step of the process,” says Ilka Kettner-Groos, Head of Endoscopy. Digital records allow for faster data access and eliminate the need for paper-based forms.
Quick communication also helps when staffing is tight. In small teams, responding quickly to any changes is particularly important: “If someone’s out sick, I don’t need to call five people, I just send one message and everyone’s in the loop,” she explains.
That flexibility ensures the team stays on track, even during sudden changes.
Flexible scheduling for part-time staff
Part-time staff can now check their schedules from home, no more calling in or coming to the ward to receive information. This transparency helps them align work with their personal lives.
“Our part-time team members can view the duty roster from home and better coordinate their schedules,” says Patricia Seelig, Head of the Surgical Ward. Meeting notes and new forms are also instantly accessible to them, so they’re always up to date when they return.
High-level quality management
For Dr. Andreas Schwarze, Chief of Anesthesia and Head of Risk and Quality Management at Kaiserin-Auguste-Viktoria-Krankenhaus, medikit plays a crucial role in supporting QM processes. “Everything we do in quality management is mapped in medikit,” he explains. This includes checklists, cycles, and evaluations, – available to all staff at any time.
What’s especially valuable is that all relevant information, like work instructions or changes, can be published quickly and easily in medikit. This ensures that all staff members stay up to date and adhere to the correct standards, regardless of where they are. Real-time access to information allows for quicker responses and supports continuous quality improvement across the hospital. As a result, day-to-day operations run more efficiently, while high standards in quality management are consistently maintained.
